Padel on outdoor courts at Daftö

At Daftö there are two outdoor courts and these can be booked via Matchi.se. Racks can be rented and balls can be bought via the reception during the reception's opening hours. If you want to play indoors, Strömstad padel has plenty of courts to offer, these can also be booked via matchi and are only 5 km from Daftö Resort.

How to play padel?

It is played on a court with two halves of the court separated by a net, just like in tennis. However, you can also use the walls in the game - which is more similar to squash. The regulations are thus a concoction of both sports.

A padel rack is made of composite material where the hitting surface has holes in it. It therefore does not consist of strings as in tennis and squash. The fact that there are no strings means that the ball hit does not have the same force and it becomes a duller hit.

The ball in padel is basically the same as a tennis ball, but slightly softer. There are rules for how hard the pressure should be, but if you play at an amateur level, it works just as well with a regular tennis ball.

The serve must be hit from below. Balls that hit the walls or the ground are still in play in the same way as in, for example, squash. It is permitted to herd the ball in one's own glass wall over into the opponent's half of the pitch. Scoring is just like in tennis.

Game levels - what level are you?

1. Never held a racket.

2. Beginners. Learning the basics of padel.

3. Beginner advanced. Knows the basics of the game but is uncomfortable with ground strokes and has problems with wall bounces.

4. Leisure players. Played for a while and knows the basics well and can pick up the pace of the game, but doesn't play consistently.

5. Average. Been playing for a couple of years and, while not a super talent, gets the ball over the net most of the time and with reasonable power. Serve/release and the like can still be inconsistent.

6. Average advanced. Like level 5 but with better smashes and special shots. Also more consistent and more control.

7. Experienced. Can defend and turn the game against the opponent. Can maintain pressure on the opponent with heavy volleys and build up and hit winners. In addition to matches, you have probably started with specific padel exercises.

8. Skilled. You master all the technical and tactical aspects of the game. Can read the game and use different tactical elements depending on the opposition. You are probably among the best players in your club and practice padel regularly, probably with a coach.

9. Expert. Belongs to the absolute best and masters the game at the highest level and can play national competitions with good results.

10. Like Fernando Belasteguín, Paquito Navarro or someone similar in their prime but better.
